The Society’s Inaugural Meeting took place on the 16th January 1975 with the aim of providing shows within the counties of Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire, due to a lack of London shows. These counties were not represented in the Cat Fancy. Founder members, Mrs Rosemary Gowdy and Mr Eric Wickham-Ruffle (well established judges), and 6 other members attended the meeting. Mrs Gowdy still plays a very active part in the Society’s day to day affairs as until recently did Mr Wickham-Ruffle who has had to take a more background interest in the Society. An open meeting was held in May 1975 at Reading, which was attended by 89 people. The first Exemption Show was held on 2nd July 1978 at the Bletchley Leisure Centre with Mr John Shewbridge as Show Manager assisted by Mrs C Betts and Mrs Gowdy. Affiliation to the GCCF was granted in 1977 The Society progressed to their Sanction Show in 1979 and achieved Championship status in 1982. Following these early shows, the Society has settled into dates in September and still favours the original venue at Bletchley Leisure Centre. The Society offers support for its members at all championship shows, in the form of attractive rosettes in the Society colours of deep purple and light lilac. The club show also boasts holding a grand finale of Best in Show, sadly missing from many shows now.
